Dr Mary Hynes, Senior Clinical Psychologist and Bariatric Psychologist is committed to promoting positive Adult Mental Health using an evidenced based Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy approach to support people with severe and enduring mental health needs such as Anxiety Disorder, Mood Disorder, Eating Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Stress Management and Obesity. Her speciality lies in developing services, providing Clinical Supervision and specialised third level educational training and Supervision to post-graduate Trainee Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Medical Students and CBT Clinical Nurse Specialists.

She is committed to imparting evidence based psychological knowledge in many third level educational settings and currently represents the Clinical Psychology Services, Health Service Executive (HSE) on the NUIG Doctorate in Clinical and work Psychology. Dr Mary Hynes, Senior Clinical Psychologist is an Adjunct University lecturer in the Department of Psychology NUIG and School of Nursing, NUIG on the MSc in Obesity.

Mary completed a three year doctoral training NUIG Clinical Psychology, where she specialised in Compassionate Focused Therapy for people with Severe Obesity and Eating Disorders and her specialities in the Psychological treatment of Weight Management, Obesity and Binge Eating Disorder.

Furthermore, Mary has specialised training and experience in working with Adults who have experienced Institutional Abuse, Childhood trauma and victimisation having worked in the National Counselling. Service for over 18 months and received specialised training in the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. Whilst working in the Adult Mental Health Unit in Galway University Hospital (GUH) for seven years, she received specialised training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and EMDR in the Nottingham University Trauma Centre.  Dr Mary Hynes, Clinical Psychologist, has completed a range of additional specialist training including PGAP for Pain Management, Schema Therapy (a treatment approach for complex difficulties) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Over the past ten years, Mary has focused on developing her therapeutic skills in Compassion Focused Therapy and has received advanced training under Prof Paul Gilbert, Clinical psychologist, Derby and Dr Ken Goss, Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Eating Disorders.

I am a Graduate Member of the Psychological Society of Ireland of Ireland (PSI) since 1996 and a Full-time Member of the Clinical Division of the PSI.
